Protecting your private information is our priority. This Statement of Privacy applies to the Google Transparency Project (“GTP”) website, data collection and usage. By using the GTP website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Collection of your Personal Information

If you provide your name, postal address, email address, phone number or other information via a form on our website, GTP may store that information and contact you about our work.  GTP does not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose to any business, organization, individual, or other outside entity information provided by people who visit or interact with the website, except that consultants working with us on specific projects may have temporary access to such information.

GTP will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on GTP or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of GTP; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of GTP, or the public.

Email Lists and Newsletters

We do not disclose information you enter on a sign-up page to outside entities.

Petitions

If you sign a petition, your name and state may be included in an electronic file or print-out delivered to legislators or other policy makers.

Donations

The information you enter on a donation page may be shared with third-party service providers, such as those that verify credit card information.  GTP complies with PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and does not maintain credit card information on our servers

Use of Cookies and IP Addresses

The GTP website uses cookies to save you time. When you return to the same GTP website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the GTP features that you customized and so that you don’t have to re-enter information on action or donation pages.  We also use cookies to allow us to evaluate and improve the website and facilitate outreach based on user interest.

Information about your computer hardware and software may be automatically collected by GTP. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information is used to evaluate and improve the GTP website.

Security of your Personal Information

GTP makes every effort to protect the security of your personal information.   GTP’s network is protected by industry-standard firewalls and all computers have antivirus software.  Data sent outside of GTP’s secure network is encrypted.  Despite our best efforts, no transmission over the Internet and no data storage method is 100% secure.  GTP makes no warranty, guarantee, or representation that the site is protected from viruses, security threats, or other vulnerabilities, or that your information will always be secure.

We respect your privacy and give you an opportunity to opt-out of receiving emails and correspondence from us.

Changes to this Statement

GTP will occasionally update this Statement of Privacy. Effective as of April XX, 2016.
